A Little Xmas #24

It’s been a few weeks since I’ve done one of these, so this time I’m doing it a day early to beat any potential busy-ness tomorrow.

Anyway, there’s not much to say – we’re still knee deep in The Resurrection of Ra’s Al Ghul and Messiah Complex crossovers in DC’s Batman and Marvel’s X-Men titles respectively, and new issues of Nightwing and X-Factor continue the stories this week. They’ve both been surprisingly enjoyable for ‘event’ stories so far, and remarkably coherent – fill-in writers Fabian Nicieza and Pete Milligan have managed to fit broadly with the tone set by Grant Morrison in the two Bat-sidekick books, while over at Marvel the X-writers seem to all be reading from the same hymn sheet. There’s little filler, even if both stories do lapse into extended fight scenes rather too often. The real jarring thing with both stories, once they reach trade paperback, is going to be the art between the different titles. But that’s a problem for some other bugger. For those of us reading on a weekly basis, everything’s peachy.

Not much else: double Kirkman with both Astounding Wolf-Man and The Walking Dead shipping this week from Image, the third issue of the new Green Arrow/Black Canary from DC and another issue of New Avengers from Marvel. Have we caught up with the story in Mighty Avengers yet in that last one? I can’t remember. Continuity is complicated.

Oh yeah, and there’s more vigilante goodness in Punisher: War Journal.
